Josiah’s recorded career led from a Bogotá guard post to consular assignments around the world.

The wider Brownell family also acquired an international chapter. Josiah Harland Brownell, associated in cemetery records with George and their parents, was born in Platteville in 1927. The United States Department of State's obituary for Josiah H. Brownell matches his birthplace, age, and September 28, 1985 death date. It describes a career that began as a guard in Bogota in 1947 and developed into consular service on several continents. 1617

A July 1949 personnel notice independently records Josiah's transfer from Bogota to Cali. His later work included Addis Ababa and consular assignments in Veracruz, Seoul, La Paz, Naha, Puerto La Cruz, and Caracas. He retired in 1978 after a posting to Santiago. The official obituary records his death at home in Ramona, California, aged fifty-eight. 1718
